Green Park Station Update | 2nd February 2026
Reactivating the South Vaults: An Invitation to Shape the Next Chapter of Green Park Station
If you’ve been following the journey of Green Park Station over the past few years, you’ll know just how much care, energy, and community spirit has gone into restoring and reimagining this much‑loved Bath landmark. We’re excited to share an important milestone: we’re officially inviting expressions of interest for the South Vaults, one of the most atmospheric and historically rich spaces in the entire site.
This is a moment many of us have been waiting for. After the fire in 2023 and the extensive restoration work that followed, the South Vaults are once again ready to welcome new life, new ideas, and new community focused enterprises.
The South Vaults sit beneath this amazing building. Anyone who has stepped inside will know the feeling: the sweeping brick arches, the exposed stonework, the sense of stepping into a piece of Bath’s industrial story. Once a bustling hub for goods heading out on the Great Western Railway, the space still carries that distinctive character.
With around 250 m² of interconnected vaulted chambers, natural daylight filtering in, and direct access from both the South Platform concourse and Midland Bridge Road, the space is as practical as it is beautiful. It’s flexible, full of personality, and ready to be shaped into something meaningful.
Green Park Station has grown into one of Bath’s most vibrant community destinations. Between the award‑winning Bath Farmers’ Market, the BCAF Art Market, vintage fairs, live music, and the brilliant independent shops and restaurants that call the station home, the site is buzzing with activity week after week.
Reactivating the South Vaults is the next step in strengthening that ecosystem, bringing in new partners who share our values and want to contribute to the long‑term regeneration of the station.
What We’re Looking For
We’re inviting proposals from organisations and businesses that are:
Creative
Community‑minded
Environmentally responsible
Financially sustainable
Excited to engage with the people of Bath
We’ve already had some inspiring early ideas from an art gallery or creative studio space to a wine bar, LGBTQ+ café, independent bookshop, or even a small railway‑themed cultural venue. These are just starting points. What matters most is that the future tenant brings something vibrant, inclusive, and rooted in community benefit.
As many of you know, Ethical Property has been supporting organisations working for social and environmental change since 1998. Our approach at Green Park Station is no different: we want to work collaboratively with tenants who share our commitment to sustainability, accessibility, and positive local impact.
We’re particularly keen to hear from groups who:
Operate to high environmental standards
Foster inclusion and accessibility
Support local makers, artists, and social enterprises
Celebrate the heritage of the station while bringing something fresh and future‑focused
For those of you who have been part of the Green Park Station community, whether as tenants, partners, market traders, or supporters—this is an opportunity to help shape something truly special. The South Vaults are ready for renewal, and we’re eager to see what imaginative, purpose‑driven ideas emerge.
Our aim is simple: to create a space that honours the past, serves the present, and inspires the future.
If you or someone you know is interested in exploring the potential of the South Vaults, we’d love to hear from you.
Green Park Station Update | 15th February 2023
We're thrilled to share the fantastic news that the roof repairs to Green Park Station have now started, following the fire in 2023.
We appreciate continued patience and cooperation from all customers during the rebuild process, and please be aware that it will be slightly noisier than normal at the Centre during this period.
The planned work is scheduled to finish in early June 2024.
Green Park Station Update | 20th November 2023
We are delighted that so many of you have shown support to our traders over the last few months and wanted to take this opportunity to thank you.
November and December look set to be very busy, with all the permanent traders open and a wide range of markets booked in, look out for our Green Park Station Christmas newspaper which will be available soon, jam packed with ideas and information about our amazing tenants.
Our landlord, Sainsburys, has advised that work will start shortly on repairing the damage caused by the fire and we expect that work to continue until early spring, 2024. Until the repair work is completed, we are not able to operate South Vaults or advise on replacement of the huts.
Thank you again for your support and we are looking forward to seeing you all over the next few months.
Green Park Station Update | 2nd June 2023
From the 10th of June 2023, the retail shops and market square will be re-opened to the public. Unfortunately, the wooden huts will remain closed. There will be access from the main front doors and from Sainsbury’s car park.
Markets will resume with Bath Farmers’ Market on Saturday 10th of June and Bath Contemporary Artist’s Fair on Sunday 11th of June.
Please note that the South Vaults will still be closed due to ongoing health and safety concerns.
---
We’re still working tirelessly behind the scenes to get the rest of the station open as soon as we can. We’d like to thank everyone in the community who has shown support over the past few weeks. We’d like to ask if you’d continue to show your support to the traders and businesses of Green Park Station by visiting us this weekend. Please also share and contribute to those fundraising where you can.
